Dear All,

We are pleased to invite you to attend the National consultation workshop on
"Advancing the Science of Taxonomy in India for Biodiversity conservation",
which will be held on Feb 23, 2010 at ATREE from 9:30 am, as well
the ongoing on-line discussion. This is being organized by ATREE, in
partnership with SEC, UAS, Bangalore, the Indian
Association for Angiosperm  Taxonomy (IAAT), and the Western Ghats
Invertebrate Research and Conservation Network under the aegis of the
National Biodiversity Authority, GOI.

The tentative programme outline is attached for your kind perusal. It is
being organized to commemorate the International year of biodiversity 2010.

We understand that the science of taxonomy is vast, but we will pursue a
limited set of prioritized objectives at this consultation. We would discuss
major constraints in development of taxonomy in India and the ways to
overcome these constraints, explore the use of the latest web-based and
internet tools as well as molecular approaches to advance the science of
taxonomy, and outline steps to leverage international expertise and networks
to strengthen taxonomy in India
