Wayne Takeuchi named a Papuan Ardisia for me, and the university decided to
ballyhoo it for PR purposes. Aside from an inordinate fondness for seeing
my name and face on the internet, my main interest in cooperating was a
desire to see some of the traditional aspects of science kept in the public
eye. So much university science PR capitalizes on the latest cool gee-whiz
six-figure electronic-gizmo-mediated science, that it's nice to remind the
public that there is more to it than that.
