[Taxacom] Drosophila melanogaster name change?

Agreed. The question is, how many of those high hitting species are in 
risk of loosing their name because of their taxonomic position in an 
unresolved taxonomic mess. And that are far fewer.....

I am curious about serious cases that can rifle Sophophora melanogaster.....

A case that is somewhat relevant here is that of the tomato. The name 
Lycopersicon esculentum was prominent enough to influence the debate
on whether to allow conservation at the rank of species, and the name 
was succesfully conserved.

Later it was moved to another genus, leading to Solanum lycopersicum.
The new position/name is accepted less than universally.
