Dear All,
after visiting http://www.globalnames.org, a journalist asked me, who were
those taxonomists responsible for creating numerous homonyms of the genus
"Gemeine", -
namely Mr./ Mrs. (Dr.? Prof.? prenames?):
Sumpfbinse, Bernsteinschnecke, Braunelle, Eichenschrecke, Federlibelle,
Felsenbirne, Fichte, Flockenblume, Garten-Wegschnecke, Graseule,
Hopfenbuche, Kugelmuschel, Nachtkerze, Quecke, Schafgarbe, Wasserassel,
Weidenjungfer, Wespe, Wiesenwanze...
Well, journalists do have a sixth sense for hidden secrets. And they are not
deterred but rather attracted by warnings like "The primary users of this
site are not people, but other machines, so please don’t complain because
the site is boring".
So, shouldn't we also risk a look? Maybe some more sensations hiding there?
Indeed, my own quick search revealed two facts that I didn't know so far:
The genus "Grüne" was described by author Stinkwanze, and the author for
genus "Spanische" is Mr./ Mrs. "Wegschnecke", according to globalnames.org.
Uhmmm oups, - no, that's undigestible for human users...
Cheers,
Wolfgang
