I've added a new feature to the BHL Timeline demo mentioned earlier (http://bioguid.info/bhl
). If you go to http://bioguid.info/bhl/compare.php and enter two
names (must be in uBio) you can get "sparklines" showing the relative
frequency of hits for those names in BHL. The example I use on my blog
post http://iphylo.blogspot.com/2009/10/biodiversity-heritage-library.html
is the sperm whale, which has at least two well known synonyms,
Physeter catodon and Physeter macrocephalus. The later was popular
around 1850-1900, whereas P. catodon is most often found in the second
half of the 20th century.

This tool is a quick hack, but I hope people on this list might have
some fun with it.

Regards

Rod
