Also look at Begonia laporteifolia Warb. (syn.: B. hypogaea Winkler) and many other species of the sections Scutobegonia and Loasibegonia from tropical Africa, in:
Sosef, M.S.M. 1994, Refuge begonias. Wageningen Agricultural University Papers 94.1: 1-306.

also Trifolium subterraneum, a clover native to the Mediterranean
region is also developing fruits underground.
