There is an interesting edge to this: It shows the BHL copyright policy very
nicely that there are many articles before their cut off date (if am right
65 years back) and then afterwards almost nothing, see eg

Despite areas where a lot of research is going on.

I've created a tool to display the contents of the Biodiversity  
Heritage Library for a given taxon name as a timeline. The tool is  
online at

If you type in a taxon name (one which exists in uBio as BHL uses that  
as its source of names) then you will see the items in BHL displayed  
as a timeline. Some examples to try are:

The dates I've used to locate a reference on the timeline have been  
extracted from text strings of the sort "v. 10 (1921-24)", so there  
may be some errors in the dating. Feel free to bring any mistakes to  
my attention.
