[Taxacom] Miconia amoena Triana & ???

Dear Alex,
I am almost certain that the white structures in your photos are some 
larval stage of an insect. I have seen very similar ones attached to 
non-melastomataceous plants in Costa Rica. As you can see, they do not 
occur in the leaf axils, as would be expected to be if they were fruits.

I think they are homopterans in superfamily Coccoidea, possibly family 
Kermesidae. In any case, let me know if you find out what they are.
