Dear colleagues,

I have pleasure to inform you and offer participation to some of activities of the EDIT network of
excellence (European Distributed Institute of Taxonomy, www.e-taxonomy.eu), which will be
organised this year in Slovakia.

1. ATBI Gemer research (All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory in area of Western Carpathians)
The ATBI activity is one of the main EDIT contribution to the connection between taxonomy,
knowledge of biodiversity and nature protection. Within this activity, few areas were selected,
where the „as complete as possible“ biodiversity inventory will be financed from the budget of the
project.
We are very pleased that one of ATBI sites is located in the Western Carpathian mountains. This
site, the ATBI Gemer site, covers area of three national parks (Slovenský raj NP, Muránska planina
NP, and Slovenský kras NP – all representing a lovely example of karstic mountains in connection
with Pannonian lowland).
Researchers and amateur scientists, experts in diverse taxa of animals and plants are welcome to
visit the ATBI site and contribute to the knowledge of diversity of nature there.
If you are interesting to join the ATBI Gemer research group, visit www.atbi.sk website for more
information about the site and the main ATBI website http://www.atbi.eu/wp7/?q=node/1026 for
information on terms of references and registration.

2. EDIT Summer School of Taxonomy
In connection with the ATBI research, the 2nd year of the EDIT Summer School of Taxonomy will be
organised during 19.7.-1.8.2009 in the area of the ATBI Gemer site. Altogether 20 student and
about 20 experts in position of lecturers will meet during July to share knowledge with young
generation of future taxonomists. While registration of students is already closed due to high
interest, there are still few free positions of training providers.
More information on the EDIT Summer school of taxonomy is available at
http://www.atbi.sk/sst/summer_school.htm or http://atbi.eu/summerschool/?q=node/94 and if you wish
to join the team of training providers, register at http://atbi.eu/summerschool/?q=node/113,
please.

Kind regards,
Edo Stloukal
