[Taxacom] [tdwg-tag] Zootaxa RSS feed

Dear Tony,
There is overlap with uBio's RSS feeds, which is not surprising (http://www.ubio.org/index.php?pagename=ubioRSS
).
In a sense you can think of my project as doing several things:
1. It provides RSS feeds for databases and journals that don't have
them (e.g., Zootaxa and IPNI), so these could be consumed by tools
such as uBio's nomina nova service. For example, the uBio service
doesn't have a feed for plant names (other than what it can extract
from journals). It could take my IPNI feeds to gain additional records.
2. It provides feeds that are enriched with links to other resources.
For example, the IPNI feed has DOIs, where available (and I'm hoping
to add geotags as well). I'm looking at doing something similar with
World Register of Marine Species, which has limited bibliographic
information for names, and when it does, it doesn't use identifiers.
3. For journals that lack RSS feeds the aim is to provide detailed
bibliographic records (jargon alert -- in RSS 1 format) so that the
information can imported into bibliographic databases. There are a
range of RSS feed formats out there. If you are a person viewing them
in a web browser you won't notice much difference (you get a journal
title and a link to click on), but under the hood they can differ
greatly in how useful they are to people like me aggregating
information.
Hope this helps. In a sense these feeds are a by product of my trying
to aggregate information. It just seemed that rather than bury them in
a larger project, I'd make them available so anybody who found them
useful could play with them, independently of what I do with them.
Regards
Rod
