Dear Members of the GBIF Community,

The GBIF Secretariat is pleased to announce a call for contributions for a
new set of 'Training Manuals on Biodiversity Data Mobilisation' (see
document attached). As some of you may recall, the first manual of this
series was published in February 2008: 'Digitisation of Natural History
Collections Data' (
<http://www.gbif.org/GBIF_org/GBIF_Publications/trainingmanual1/>
http://www.gbif.org/GBIF_org/GBIF_Publications/trainingmanual1/).

The objective of these manuals is to improve the capacity of biodiversity
data producers, holders and custodians to efficiently manage, publish, share
and use these data. The complete list of topics proposed for this series is
as follows:

1. GBIF Training Manual I: digitisation and mobilisation of natural
history collection data

2. GBIF Training Manual II: digitisation and mobilisation of
observational data

3. GBIF Training Manual III: capture, digitisation and mobilisation of
multimedia resources in biodiversity

4. GBIF Training Manual IV: digitisation and mobilisation of other
types of biodiversity information

5. GBIF Training Manual V: digitisation and mobilisation of organisms
name data

6. GBIF Training Manual VI: biodiversity metadata capture and
management

Selected contributors will receive a small grant and will benefit from the
recognition and visibility of publishing with an global initiative such as
GBIF. The contributions will be peer-reviewed by a panel of internationally
recognised experts, will receive a ISBN number and will be distributed in
multiple formats and multiples languages through the GBIF network.

We would like to kindly request from you to distribute this call widely and
if possible to contact directly those experts who could significantly
contribute to the contents of these manuals. Let us ensure that the whole
GBIF community benefits from the highest quality training materials
possible.

Please remember that the deadline for proposals is 31st March 2009.

Best regards

Alberto
