This is a reminder that the deadline is approaching for submissions
to the Biodiversity Informatics workshop to be held in Linz
(Austria) on 2nd September 2009 in association with DEXA '09.
The deadline for submissions is Sunday 15th March 2009. Please do
not hesitate to e-mail me (Andrew.C.Jones at cs.cardiff.ac.uk)
if you have any enquiries about this workshop. The details are
as follows:
CALL FOR PAPERS
===============
1st International Workshop on
Database Challenges in Biodiversity Informatics (DCIBI '09)
2nd September 2009
In conjunction with
20th International Conference on
Database and Expert Systems Applications (DEXA '09)
www.dexa.org
University of Linz, Austria
31st August - 4th September 2009
=====
With the increasing international concern about biodiversity loss and
other biodiversity-related issues, there are significant Biodiversity
Informatics challenges associated with assisting biodiversity
researchers in their work. Particular problems include heterogeneity;
the interdisciplinary nature of Biodiversity Informatics; conflicts of
expert opinion (e.g. in classification); tracking data provenance; and
management of "sensitive data". In this workshop we shall concentrate
on current database- and data-related challenges. This international
workshop follows on from a national workshop held in Cardiff, UK, in
2008 entitled "Biodiversity Informatics: challenges in modelling and
managing biodiversity knowledge".
Scope
=====
Papers on all aspects of modelling and managing biodiversity data and
knowledge are invited. Possible topics include:
Interoperation of biodiversity systems
Biodiversity data quality
Supporting the taxonomic process
Modelling biodiversity concepts
Unique identifiers for data
Data provenance
Biodiversity ontologies
Managing sensitive data
Modelling multiple, conflicting expert opinions & supporting
information retrieval using such models
This list is not intended to be exhaustive or to exclude papers that
do not fall into one or more of the above categories.
Submission
==========
Original papers of up to 5 pages are invited in IEEE format:
http://www.ieee.org/web/publications/authors/transjnl/index.html
Submissions must be made electronically in PDF format by 15th March
2009 via the DEXA'09 ConfDriver:
http://confdriver.ifs.tuwien.ac.at/
Each paper submission received will be subject to peer review by three
members of the programme committee. Accepted papers must be presented
at the workshop and will be published in an IEEE proceedings volume of
the DEXA 2009 workshops.
