Welcome back, John. But please try to limit your essays to about one per fortnight. That way, they provide useful punctuation to debates that can become repetitious and tedious.

Subject: [Taxacom] legel threats

After some input from colleagues I have decided that I get used to the
idea that some people on TAXACOM are nasty enough to resort to, or
encourage, legal threats. I have been advised that some responses to my
postings were themselves defamatory, but I am not interested in looking
down that road even though I guess we just live in an increasingly
litigious world.

In future I will take care not to assume that off list postings
mistakenly omit response to the list (by failing to 'reply all') and I
will respond to negative off list responses on the list by omitting
identity of the individual (I presume that is legally allowed). Those of
you who have a high level of intolerance for the views I express on
subjects such as the orangutan theory or panbiogeography will have to
exercise that delete key again. Sorry.
