[Taxacom] Wikipedia classification

One issue with Wikipedia (and Wikispecies) is what to include. I
suspect Wikipedia's intention is to provide a snapshot of one view of
what we know about various taxa. This will meet most people's needs.

Taxonomists, however, will want information about all names that have
been applied to that taxon, synonomies, etc. This would create a wiki
with over 10,000,000 pages (rather larger than all of Wikipedia itself).

I wonder whether the case could be made for a wiki dealing just with
nomenclature. Wikispecies could have been this, but seems trapped in a
non mans land between a wiki just of nomenclature and a wiki of
concepts (but no content).

In other words, let Wikipedia deal with taxonomic concepts, and have a
separate wiki for names.

Thoughts?

Regards

Rod
