"Wikipedia was never designed to handle taxonomy. Wikispecies was. Wikispecies can handle synonymy, homonymy, vernacular names, can easily upload images, and link to other websites and pdfs. A single classification has to be adopted, but rival classifications can be flagged and explained, using the Disputed Template. For example of homonymy, type Edalus into the search box on the left:
