Dear All,
The genome of the rhinovirus is now in the news. The "strains" can
swap genes when brought together, but are these all producing
"intergrades" within one species of virus, or can some of them perhaps
be "hybrids" between two or more separate species of rhinovirus?
Or does the concept of species completely break down in these
non-cellular pieces of nucleic acid. It's even more problematic than
the species concepts for bacteria.
