Hi Taxacomers
I hope someone familiar with S.American mammals may be able to help with
this.
A colleague was in Peru a few years ago and took some pictures of a dead
mammal in the Cordillera Blanca well above 3,500
metres.
The body was nearly 2 feet long excluding tail, and the fur was entirely
black.
I have provisionally identified it as a Hog-nosed Skunk (Conepatus sp.), but
was puzzled at the lack of any white markings.
Does anyone know if Conepatus can be all black?
I can send pictures to anyone who may be able to help.
Many thanks
Tony
