  Position announcement

National Botanic Garden of Belgium

The National Botanic Garden of Belgium invites applications for a
full-time research position to support ongoing research on the Flora of
Central Africa (R.D.Congo, Rwanda and Burundi). This research involves
identification, study and validation of historical and new botanical
specimens from the flora region in order to produce new installments for
the 'Flore d'Afrique central'. The successful candidate will actively
participate in (1) the follow-up of ongoing projects of the National
Botanic Garden in Central Africa, (2) the realization of an
international research network to promote and facilitate the study of
the biodiversity of Central Africa, and (3) the search for additional
funds. The researcher will organize on a regular basis expeditions to
the flora region to build up local networks and generate new botanical
collections.

The successful candidate should have completed a Master or a Ph.D. with
specialization in Systematic Botany, including either floristic or
revisionary monographic studies, ideally with an emphasis on the African
region. A thorough understanding of taxonomy, botanical nomenclature
and experience in herbarium curation, and facility with computer
databases are essential. The position requires the ability to work in a
team environment, and provide mentoring to African colleagues. A good
knowledge of English and French and tropical field experience are highly
desirable.

Additional information on the job can be obtained from Prof. Elmar
Robbrecht (elmar.robbrecht at br.fgov.be <mailto:elmar.robbrecht at br.fgov.be>).
