I've modified something on Wikipedia, after signing up as a contributor, and my modification has not been changed for a couple years. Apparently, if you are signed up as an editor, you are notified if "your" entry has been changed by someone else.
Some entries in Wikipedia are naturally targets of kooks, kids and antinomians but I think most entries are stable and secure. Wikipedia has great value as a place to start study, and entries commonly list major hardcopy sources of information.

Subject: Re: [Taxacom] Wikipedia rewrites [was: Species Pages - purpose]
* has anyone had the experience of having errors subsequently inserted
into something they've put up on wikipedia? This is often mentioned, but
I wonder how often it occurs (I've thought of contributing to wikipedia,
but I've been spooked by the fear that it could become a full-time
activity).
