[Taxacom] image hanlding, storage, and handling software

I've heard that blueMarine (an open source cross platform app) is
meant to be very good - it's at http://bluemarine.tidalwave.it/
The nice thing is it's extensible, so more features (eg a taxonomy
tagger that looks up names automatically from your chosen name server)
could be developed ;)
There's a nice global map viewer built in using either OpenStreetMap
or Nasa's WorldWind 3D (an open source alternative to google earth),
tagging images by trip etc, and also as your spec requires some nice
clear buttons labelled 'Tag as Keeper' and 'Tag as Trash'
It's currently in Beta but definately looks promising. I think the
tutorial is worth a read through http://bluemarine-old.tidalwave.it/tutorial
Also a video of it in action: http://bluemarine.tidalwave.it/videos.html
(although I have to admit I haven't used it for my photos yet - I
generally use f-spot (http://f-spot.org/Main_Page) & gThumb (http://gthumb.sourceforge.net/
) which come with the Gnome desktop). F or ease of use and performance
I think I would probably go with google's Picasa but that lacks a lot
of high in features, but it does embed metadata in the images.
Anyway that's my €0.02
