Speak for yourself. I learned and used FORTRAN in high school in 1960, and I don't remember the teachers, the curriculum or my fellow overachievers as being either kind or gentle. 'Course, memory plays tricks on us oldies...

I think they both graduated and are still out of work. There was a push in 2008-09 for the Australian Government to boost taxonomy training and employment, but it got nowhere. I realise that 'lots' is relative and is very large compared to zero, but taxonomy in this wide brown land is a long way from booming.
