Dear All,
In that same volume, is another great article: D.L. Hull, 1979.
The Limits of Cladism. Syst. Zool., 28:416-440. On page 437, he
lamented that "no methods have been set out thus far which permit the
inclusion of boths sorts of information [genealogy and divergence] in a
single classification in such a way that both are retrievable." He had
no way of knowing that I had already begun using such methods to do just
that, with my {{exgroup}} markers and an alphanumeric coding system.

I would like to remind participants of this
debate of the 30 yr old, and still very relevant
article:
Farris, J.S. 1979. The information content of the phylogenetic system.
Syst. Zool. 28: 483-519.
enjoy
all the best, jaakko
