The American Institute of Biological Sciences has an immediate 
opening for an IT Operations / Web Manager in its Washington DC

The position reports to the AIBS Director of Information Technology, 
works directly with the AIBS Executive Director, and interacts 
frequently with senior members of academic and science 
communities.  Superior oral and written communication skills, solid 
project, vendor, and office management skills, and a wide degree of 
creativity and latitude are required. Successful candidate will have 
a passion for technology and for hands-on creation and management of 
high-quality Internet publishing efforts.

The position is responsible for:

- Maintaining and extending several Movable Type and PHP-based Web 
sites featuring science and biology-oriented content, including 
www.aibs.org, www.actionbioscience.org, and www.copusproject.org

- Managing a junior staff member who's primary foci are end-user 
support for a staff of 15-30 and Web site maintenance

- Serving as IT Department liaison to AIBS Department Managers (3-5) 
in the headquarters office, working to understand needs, propose 
effective solutions, arrive at consensus, and implement

- Managing (and assist with management of) relationships/contracts 
with vendors supporting technology infrastructure for the 
headquarters office, and vendors assisting with technology project 
implementation

- Assuming responsibility for technology infrastructure maintenance 
and growth for non-IT staff

Demonstrated full cycle experience in the following areas are key:

- Minimum of five years demonstrated experience and growth supporting 
technology needs for small to mid-sized organizations (non-profit 
experience preferred)

- Demonstrated experience with full cycle publishing of large content 
management system-driven Websites required. Expertise with the 
Movable Type platform highly preferred, or related (WordPress, 
Drupal, etc.) experience and willingness/ability to develop 
high-level Movable Type skills required: MT3 -> MT4 -> MTCS

- PHP

- Well developed, mature information architecture, database design, 
Web-site and graphic design skills

- HTML, CSS, Javascript

- Light Unix system admin skills

- Apache

- Mac OS X, Windows
