[Taxacom] invitation to ATBI (All Taxa Biodiversity Research) in Europe

Dear colleagues, 

One of the activities of the EDIT network (European Distributed Institute of
Taxonomy, www.e-taxonomy.eu

c8f1e&URL=http%3a%2f%2fwww.e-taxonomy.eu%2f> ) is to select some interesting
areas within the European Union as well as in some overseas areas to ensure
detail inventory research of flora and fauna. Name of this part of the
project is the All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory. 

It is our big pleasure that among two already selected European ATBI sites,
there is one situated in the Western Carpathians Mountains, "the EDIT ATBI
Gemer site". This area covers the territory of three national parks in
Slovakia (the Slovensky raj NP, the Muranska planina NP and the Slovensky
kras NP) and do promise a high diversity in any form of terrestrial,
freshwater and sufsurface life.

Three years research project entitled "ATBI GEMER" is starting right in
these days. I hope that after a couple of years and thanks to assistance of
many experts we will able to say that we know almost all of species
occurring in the karstic areas of the Gemer and Spiš as well as in adjacent
territories.

>From the budget of the project, the travels and per-diem allowances of
experts who will participate in the on-site research or experts who will
identify species in the samples can be financed. Also we will ensure good
setting and background support for working directly in the field or in the
research area (collecting and sorting material, documentation, transport
a.o.).

Within the framework several publications will be printed, some professional
meetings, workshops, conferences will take place and there is huge potential
to organize many other activities as well.
