I am looking to hire a technician for the Hymenoptera Institute at the University of Kentucky. The duties will be somewhat dependent on the abilities of the person hired but may include the following: obtaining sequence data in our molecular lab; taking SEM and automontage images of hymenopterans; curating the Hymenoptera collection; developing webpages; and working with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Possession of skills in computer programming is a plus as is experience with handling insects, knowledge of Hymenopteran taxonomy; and experience in a molecular lab. I doubt that I will find someone with all of these skills so do not be deterred if you do not have the full range of experience.
The position is for 3 years and will likely be renewed but this is not guaranteed. Applicants may choose to complete a graduate program (MS or PhD) in insect systematics in the department of Entomology while they are working. In this case funding would be extended to cover completion of the degree.
Those interested may send an informal inquiry to me at the email address below, or send a complete application consisting of a CV, contact information for three references, and a letter giving details of your experience as it relates to the job.
