Following a reorganisation of the Royal Ontario Museum’s website, the Draft BioCode (formerly at http://www.rom.on.ca/ebuff/ – see http://listserv.nhm.ku.edu/cgi-bin/wa.exe?A2=ind9803&L=taxacom&D=1&P=1370 ) moved in January 2006 to the Berlin Botanic Garden. The Draft BioCode and associated documents can now be reached at:
http://www.bgbm.org/IAPT/biocode/
It would be appreciated if those with sites linking to the Draft BioCode updated these links.
The Draft BioCode remains what it has always been: a draft document for the future, to provide simple rules of nomenclature for groups in which approved lists of names have been adopted, and where there is no longer need to interpret early literature often with very different nomenclatural concepts and practices.
There are seven documents, each available either in HTML Format or PDF Format (there are some problems with the italicising in the html documents, but since the pdf text is also available, this has not been corrected).
1) Draft BioCode 1997: the prospective international rules for the scientific names of organisms – the most recent version
2) Introduction to the Draft BioCode 1997 – describes the changes from the “Third Draft” (item 6, below)
3) Table of Equivalence of Nomenclatural Terms Used in the Draft BioCode – a table from the Draft BioCode (1997) summarising the different nomenclatural terminology in different Codes and including a recommendation for a common terminology for adoption by existing Codes
4) Subject Index to the Draft BioCode 1997
5) The International Committee on Bionomenclature (ICB) – : a brief account of the origin of the ICB and its composition in 1998
6) Draft BioCode: the prospective international rules for the scientific names of organisms Third Draft (1996) – the previous and superseded draft retained for those who wish to make comparisons
7) General Introduction to the Draft BioCode – the original introduction to the “Third Draft” still relevant for general background
Comments may be made to me but problems with linking to the site would be better addressed to: Prof. Dr. Walter G. Berendsohn (www.bgbm.org/berendsohn)
