[Taxacom] publishing (Re: ZooBank reality check)

Sorry Frank, I see your point, but I tend to agree with Doug on this.
There are standards that have to be met, and too often authors publish
papers elsewhere because journals with good standards won't accept their
papers.

It would be particularly useful in this regard to have a free access
journal with good standards for taxonomists.  The often resurrected idea
of having standard description  formats for new species would fit this
concept wonderfully (I think there may be some out there already?).
This would greatly improve the description rate from the biodiversity
studies that have been implemented in recent years from critical parts
of the world's biosphere.

This online journal might be modeled on Zootaxa or similar, with
whatever modifications needed to include all forms of life.  Personally,
I would prefer different sections for the kingdoms and select other most
abundant higher taxa.

do you want to have peer review without control by editors?

One journal (publication venue) means only one possibility to publish.
If Nature rejected your paper, it is gone for good.
There is some advantage in variation (in biology and society).
