[Taxacom] ZooBank

After reading the recent postings about this site I tried it as I am a frequent user of taxa lists. Within my limited field of interest I find that genera of Cancellariidae are partly placed in Muricoidea and partly in Cancellarioidea. That is not as strange as the fact that there appears to be a trematode genus Trigonostoma Szidat, 1966 that is preoccupied by the well-known and frequently cited Trigonostoma Blainville, 1827 (Mollusca, Cancellarioidea). To compound the confusion, many species of Cancellarioidea, described in or referred to Trigonostoma Blainville, are listed as being trematodes!!!

A click on "Articles" brings up no useful information about the origin of the referenced name and the invitation to "view reference in Zoo Record" brings up the reminder that I am not allowed access as I do not have a subscription. I know of no individual who has one.

In short, as it now stands, ZooBank can serve only to introduce more misinformation into the system. It is difficult to believe that a data base of this type could be worse than ITIS but this one is.

My opinion.
