Hi Tim,
KML, a file format very similar to XML and easy to build on the fly.
Seems that we all tree work on the same idea, but
at different taxonomic levels and on different geographic range.
Examples of Google Earth links can be seen also in the myNature Project portal:
http://mybiosis.org/nature/portal.php?pagename=novels&novelid=8
I know it is in Romanian, but you will know to
click on Google Earth links near Cypripedium
calceolus and Adonis vernalis links. Choose open
with GE and the earth will swirl and zoom to
Romanian land :-). I think you will like it.
To visit the species pages (similar to what you
have) you will need to register (but perhaps it is worth)
http://mybiosis.org/nature/portal.php?pagename=taxon_details&genus=Cypripedium&subgenus=&species=calceolus&subspecies=&highertaxon=ORCHIDACEAE&dataset=PLANTS&languagename=English
http://mybiosis.org/nature/portal.php?pagename=taxon_details&genus=Adonis&subgenus=&species=vernalis&subspecies=&highertaxon=RANUNCULACEAE&dataset=PLANTS&languagename=English
Look forward to hear your reactions.
Sincerely,
Adorian

Nu ne-or vedea, nu ne-or simti,
Cum vom intra încet în ei.
