* does anyone know the reason for the very high charges for online
access to articles in certain journals and consortia of journals? Surely
these prevent anyone who's interested in the work from ordering such an
article, when the authors can provide a copy gratis, but if the
journal's fee was $1 rather than $35 many people might pay it. Are the
high fees tied to extracting photocopying licenses from institutional
libraries, or some other epiphenominal legality?
