Dear TAXACOMers,
Could you please circulate this job announcement among those who might
be interested. As far as I understand, applicants doing taxonomic
research on any group of animals (including insects, of course!) may be
eligible. The main point is that the museum is looking for someone "who
can develop [and curate-VG] the museum’s scientific collections of
genetic resources (tissues/DNA)". Please note that in Norway Associate
Professor is the entry level position. There is no equivalent of the
Assistant Professor level here.
The original announcement (both in English and Norwegian) is available
here: http://www.admin.uio.no/opa/ledige-stillinger/vitenskapelige.html
Many thanks,
Vladimir Gusarov

Natural History Museum (NHM) is the largest natural history museum in
Norway with about 150 employees. The main tasks are research, scientific
collections, teaching and public relations within the disciplines of
botany, geology and zoology. Over the last five years major research
efforts have been devoted to the ”National Centre for Biosystematics”
(NCB) through a strategic grant from the Research Council of Norway. As
part of a further strategic ambition of attaining excellence in
biosystematics research and a strengthening of the research links to the
museum collections, the NHM seeks a zoologist with an excellent research
profile within systematics, phylogeography, population genetics or other
disciplines in evolutionary biology who can develop the museum’s
scientific collections of genetic resources (tissues/DNA), provide
relevant scientific competence to ongoing research activities at NHM,
and attract external funding for the development of new collection-based
research. For more information about NHM, see: http://www.nhm.uio.no/
The associate professor is expected to carry out high quality research,
curate scientific collections, supervise PhD and Master students,
participate in teaching programmes at all levels and get involved in
administrative duties according to current regulations by the museum.
Within the area of scientific expertise, the successful applicant can
also be given duties outside the department, for example in association
with the NHM’s exhibitions and public services.
Further details about scientific disciplines, responsibilities and
duties, and particular areas for assessment of the applicants are given
in a special description of the open position. The document can be
