JeF:

Your inquiry may be of interest to others as well, so I'll reply to all.

I visited the Hermosillo Herbarium about 1993 to try and find the type
of Leptochloa digitatiformis Beetle, but the curator was away at the
time and the person who assisted was unsure where the type speicmens
were. Surely somebody else will be able to reply to the status of this
herbarium better in more detail.

However, the Department of Renewable Resources, University of Wyoming,
which includes the former Range Science Department, has a herbarium
(WYAC, ca. 60,000 specimens) where many of Beetle's collections are
housed. There may be a duplicate of the type there. I suspect if you
contact Dr. Dan Rodgers(rodgers at uwyo.edu) he can provide more
information about whether its accessibility. As far as I know, the
herbarium in that Department is used little.

Subject: [Taxacom] Allan Beetle collections

I am revising the grasses for the Flora Malesiana area in SE Asia. At
present I am looking for the whereabouts of the type of Cynodon dactylon
(L.) Pers. forma viviparus Beetle, Phytologia 48 (1981) 189
('vivipara'). --- Type: Beetle M-4442 (*, holo). Al(l)an Beetle then
worked at the Comision Tecnico Consultiva para la Determinacion Regional
de los Coeficientes de Agostadero, Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. This
institute (?) is not listed in the Index herbariorum on the net.

Does anybody know where this type is deposited now?

Please answer off line directly to me, unless you think that others
might be interested as well.
