It appears that it has also been open, starting with Linnaeus who certainly
did not have specimens of all of the many animals he described but he worked
from pictures (read photographs in modern context).
Think of the new cephalopod Refinesque descibed before having it for supper.
Catch and eat instead of catch and release!
