Museum Specialist position - Entomology

MUSEUM SPECIALIST

 

The University of Kansas Biodiversity Institute seeks to fill a
full-time museum specialist position in the Division of Entomology. The
museum specialist participates in the curation and management of the
division's 4.5 million research specimens, maintains the specimen
database and loan records, and helps oversee public outreach, student
training and division operations. The successful candidate will have a
bachelor's degree in biology or related field, demonstrated knowledge of
biological classification, experience working with detailed information,
MicroSoft software experience.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Bachelor's degree in biology or closely related field from a 4-year
accredited college or university
2. Demonstrated knowledge of biological classification and nomenclature 
3. Demonstrated experience working with detailed and complex information
(such experience might include research assistance in a scientific
laboratory or experience in the care and management of museum
collections and associated data) 
4. Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of modern PC software
(Windows XP and related MicroSoft products)  

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Advanced degree in systematic biology, museum studies or closely
related field 
2. Demonstrated experience in or knowledge of biological research
collections, especially entomological collections 

3. Previous supervisory experience
