The Royal Horticultural Society is currently looking for an
International Narcissus and Dahlia Registrar
to be based in their Botany Department at Wisley.

The RHS is the International Cultivar Registration Authority for nine groups of plants including Narcissus and Dahlia. This position involves compiling and maintaining the Registers of cultivars of both these genera. These are published as annual lists and on-line as well as in periodic cumulative Registers. The Registrar also represents the RHS at relevant meetings on Narcissus and Dahlia in addition to responding to enquiries about the nomenclature and identification of these two genera. The Registrar supports the work of the RHS's Advisory Panel on Narcissus Classification and other relevant committees. They will also liaise with other UK-based International Cultivar Registrars on behalf of the RHS.

This is an important and diverse position with a significant international dimension, requiring the registrar to liaise with nurserymen, growers, registrants and other specialist societies around the world. The role ranges from carrying out detailed research into the naming of cultivars to visiting growers to promote the register. It would suit someone who is thorough and pays great attention to detail. You should have a first degree or equivalent in plant sciences and have a basic familiarity with the nomenclatural code for Botany or Cultivated Plants. You should also have experience of entering and manipulating data in a database. Experience with compiling botanical descriptions, preparing information for publication and knowledge of these genera would be helpful. However, training will be provided where necessary.

This position is based at RHS Garden Wisley, Surrey
