Vacancy: Botanist at RHS Garden Wisley, UK

The Royal Horticultural Society currently has a vacancy for a Botanist (Band 4, circa £21,000) based at Wisley, Surrey, UK.

The Botany Department is one of three scientific departments devoted to the study of horticulture.  The Department is a leading authority on the taxonomy of plants in cultivation and is based around an active horticultural herbarium of over 80,000 specimens.

We need a botanist to join our team to support the plant identification and botanical advice service as well as to assist in the development of the RHS database of cultivated plant names.  You will also contribute to a programme of research into the taxonomy and nomenclature of cultivated plants.

You should hold a BSc or equivalent in Botany or Horticulture, have a sound understanding of taxonomy and genetics relating to cultivated plants.  You will also need a good knowledge of the British garden flora and a practical understanding of gardening.
