Finally we have an answer on our mystery fossils - they are internal casts
of pteropod molluscs, Vaginella austriaca.
Thanks to Arie Janssen (who actually lives on Gozo!) for providing the final
answer.

And thanks to everyone on Taxacom for helping on this and all the other
queries.
It really is an amazing resource - we are so priviliged to have access to a
group with such a wide range of willing taxonomic expertise. (And for free!)
