THE ROYAL BOTANIC GARDEN EDINBURGH

RESEARCH LICHENOLOGIST
Salary Range £20,998 to £27,298 (Band D)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates
for a Research Lichenologist within the internationally renowned Royal
Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE).  You will undertake research on lichens to
support conservation priorities and write scientific and general papers on
your research findings.  You will work with conservation agencies and NGOs
to support lichen conservation and communicate botanical science through a
range of activities including education, seminars, workshops, Science
festivals etc.  You will be expected to seek further funding and research
opportunities within the fields of lichenology.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience in
Botanical Sciences.  You will also have deep knowledge of lichenology and
expertise in ecology and statistical analysis.  A working knowledge of
botanical nomenclature would also be desirable.  You will have a sound
understanding and experience in writing research papers and popular
articles and have excellent communication skills.  You will also be IT
literate with skills ranging from word processing to spreadsheets and
databases.  Experience and enthusiasm for fieldwork and collection of
botanical specimens and recording is desirable.
