A new version (7.04) of the Bibliography of the Neuropterida has been
posted to the web. The new version contains a total of 11,149 citations
(491 new, 2653 updated). Significantly, it contains links to a large number
of new pdf files of neuropterid papers. The new version contains links to
529 papers (4.7% of all Bibliography citations), including 471 new pdfs for
this version. We are actively digitizing additional neuropterid literature
(primarily systematics, biology and faunistics), and anticipate adding
1500-2500 additional references over the next two years.
Although primarily of interest to entomologists working on the present
orders Neuroptera, Megaloptera and Raphidioptera, current and future
versions of the Bibliography may also be of interest/value to entomologists
working on other insect orders formerly included in the broad 18th and 19th
Century concepts of the "Neuroptera" (i.e., much of the non-orthopteroid,
non-holometabola, and some holometabolous groups, like the Trichoptera) --
because many of the pdf's that are (and will be) linked to the Bibliography
contain descriptions and taxonomic data that fall beyond the present-day
restricted definition of the Neuropterida. In particular, we anticipate
posting extensive collections of literature published by the following 19th
and 20th Century authors, which may be of more general interest: Longinos
Navás, Robert McLachlan, Nathan Banks, Peter Esben-Petersen and Herman Hagen.
