Have a look at the BIOSCI bionet Newsgroup Archives. There are several
molecular-oriented newsgroups there, and it is easy to dip into a group
and see how active it is. If nothing else it will give some leads.

BIOSCI bionet was an internet pioneer in biology newsgroups. It used to be
possible to subscribe to a group also by e-mail as well as with Usenet
clients and via WWW, but I am not sure about the situation now for all
groups. However, the list I moderate there (ANNELIDA) still runs by
e-mail.
