ASSISTANT CURATOR
Band C Salary Circa 18,000 pound sterling per annum
(Plus Pension and Benefits)
This is a 3 year Fixed Term Appointment and starting salary is circa 18K
pounds sterling pa but may be slightly higher dependant upon experience
and qualifications
Applications are invited from dynamic individuals seeking a challenging
and interesting position within the herbarium of one of the world's top
five botanic gardens. Your main responsibilities will be increasing the
levels of curation in the herbarium and processing of incoming
specimens. You will also be expected to contribute to the long-term
strategy for the herbarium, help write grant applications, participate
in MSc teaching and manage an area of the herbarium.
You should have excellent interpersonal skills and be proficient at
organising and prioritising people and specimens to competing demands as
part of a busy work schedule. This post requires excellent ICT and
communication skills with an ability to translate views and opinions
into policy. You will also have a thorough knowledge and understanding
of taxonomic publications and data as well as working practices within
an international herbarium. You will ideally be qualified to degree
level or equivalent in a biological science or have three years
experience of curating specimens in an international herbarium.
For those candidates applying under promotion a promotability marking to
Band C will be sought from your Divisional area by the HR Department in
advance of the sift board. Staff moving on a level basis will transfer
on their current salary. Staff moving on promotion will receive a 10%
uplift or move to the pay band minimum, whichever is greater.
