Curatorial Assistant Position, Harvard University Herbaria

Available 1 July 2004

Harvard University Herbaria.  Incumbent will assist with the general 
curation of the vascular plant collections.  -- preparing labels for newly 
acquired specimens; inserting labels; sending out specimens to specialists 
as gifts or exchange. Assists with loan processing, visitor's questions, 
and answering questions or correspondence related to the collections. 
Assists with reorganization of the collections when necessary. Prepares 
pressed and dried botanical specimens for insertion into the collections – 
plant mounting.  Surveys collections in the herbarium for needed repair, 
makes necessary repairs, and returns material to the collections or to 
other curatorial staff for processing.  Other duties as required.

College degree with specialized courses pertaining to botany and/or 
herbarium/museum collections preferred; word processing and data entry 
skills helpful. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well 
independently as well as with others. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
