Linne or Linnaeous?

William T. Stern says (Botanical Latin, 4th edn, 1992, pp. 283-4):

"The name Linnaeus, contrary to frequent supposition, is not a
Latinized version of Linne, but Linne is a shortened version of
Linnaeus .. [much about the coining of the name Linnaeus by his
grandfather, after the family Lime or Linden tree (Tilia)] .. The name
Linnaeus was thus of Latin form from the start, like many other
Swedish family names ending in -us."

Notice also the spelling of the Linnean Society!
