That indeed is pretty bad.
However, according to Mabberley (2002) it is a current name.

This is a fossil, as are just about all names that put a generic name before
"-xylon" (but note Verbenoxylum for an extant taxon).

I am almost entirely ignorant about Algae, but the family is definitely
wrong.
The Algal family name Peranemataceae was illegitimate to begin with and has
now been conserved against (ICBN: 121. 2000 ).
This name is conserved for a fern family.
