If done well, they are the same thing.

To others on this list:  I very-much appreciate the many on- and off-list
responses.  Clearly some see it as a potentially valuable tool, whereas
others see it as having very limited value.  In any case, I received
essentially exactly the sort of feedback I was hoping for.
