MEETING OF AMPHIPODOLOGISTS
July 24-27, 2005


We are pleased to invite you to Cork, which is ‘European  City of
Culture 2005’.
Anyone interested in amphipods is invited to attend the meeting, which
will be hosted by the National University of Ireland, Cork.
It is not intended that papers will be published from the meeting, which
will be an informal forum for exchange of ideas and discussions of
ongoing research.

Programme:

The scientific programme will consist of presented papers and workshops.
The following workshops are being considered:

Electronic databases for amphipods
a) Electronic bibliography (crustacea.net)
b) Electronic database of old taxonomic literature (new initiative?)
c) Electronic database of amphipod images (new initiative?)
d) Catalogue of all new taxa described since Barnard & Karaman, 1991 and
Russian caprellid/hyperiid monographs (amphipod website)
e) Terminology used in amphipod descriptions

The Amphipod website
a)      The website, summary of current state
b)      Challenges and solutions.
c)      The future?

A demonstration of amphipod illustration techniques is also planned.


Accommodation:

Ireland is not cheap by any standards (2nd only to Finland in Europe an
list of most expensive countries!)  Also, this is high season in Ireland
.

I am, however, able to offer accommodation in the University Apartments
(Victoria Lodge).
These newly refurbished apartments have a fully fitted kitchen with
microwave and all cooking utensils, a cable TV, and a telephone .
These apartments are reasonable (by Irish standards) at Euro 47 (=
US$57, GB£32) per person, per night (bed and continental breakfast)

Cork International Airport is served by a number of airlines from major
European capitals.

SEA:

Ferries to Cork are from:        Roscoff (www.brittanyferries.com)

There are also ferries from Pembroke (Wales) to Rosslare (about 160km
from Cork), from Cherbourg and Roscoff to Rosslare and from Holyhead
