THE ROYAL BOTANIC GARDEN EDINBURGH

FLORA OF NEPAL/SINO-HIMALAYAN FLORISTIC RESEARCHER
Salary Range £19,500 to £25,328 (Band D)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates
for a Flora of Nepal/Sino-Himalaya Floristic Researcher within the
internationally renowned Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE).  You will
write and edit accounts for the Flora of Nepal, administer and co-ordinate
contributors. You will be part of the floristics team in developing
bioinformatics and new floristic outputs.  You will also oversee the
development of the Himalayan electronic dataset and participate in
fieldwork and training in Nepal.  You will be expected to seek further
funding and research opportunities within Sino-Himalaya.

Applicants should have an M.Sc., Ph.D. or equivalent professional
experience in floristics or whole-plant taxonomy.  You will also have deep
knowledge of plant taxonomy and classification and a working knowledge of
botanical nomenclature.  You will have a sound understanding and experience
in writing floristic accounts, keys guides, etc., and should be experienced
in managing financial budgets.  Experience and enthusiasm for fieldwork and
collection of botanical specimens and data recording is desirable.  You
will have excellent communication skills and be IT literate with skills
ranging from word processing to spreadsheets and databases.  A knowledge of
HTML and appreciation of other web-based technologies is desirable.
