Ph.D. position in plant systematics available at the University of Zürich
A three-year Ph.D. position is available to study the phylogenetic
relationships, biogeography, and taxonomy of a subgroup of the genus
Parodia s.l. (Cactaceae) predominantly occurring in Brazil and Uruguay. The
project work will include both comparative morphological and molecular
investigations. A focus is put on extensive sampling of individuals and
populations from the Parodia ottonis complex in order to conduct
phylogeographic investigations, and character-based and tree-based species
delimitation analyses.
The applicant should preferably (1) show some practical experience in the
molecular lab; (2) be interested to work with both traditional taxonomic
as well as modern phylogenetic methods; (3) be prepared to conduct field
work; (4) be fluent in English (or German) and have a working knowledge of
Portuguese and/or Spanish.
The successful applicant will work at the Institute of Systematic Botany,
University of Zürich, and at the Zürich Succulent Plant Collection.
Application review begins immediately and will continue until the position
is filled.
