Post-doctoral/lab manager position
E. Desmond Lee Laboratory of Molecular Systematics
University of Missouri-St. Louis
A position is available for a skilled post-doc to pursue research in the
evolution of development and to manage the E. Desmond Lee Laboratory of
Molecular Systematics. The lab is located at the University of
Missouri-St. Louis and serves the University and the Missouri Botanical
Garden. Basic qualifications include a Ph.D. in plant evolutionary
biology, systematics, or molecular evolution; familiarity with techniques
of DNA extraction from plants, cloning of PCR products, DNA sequencing,
sequence analysis, alignment, and phylogenetic analysis. Excellent
organizational and teaching skills are also necessary. Preference will be
given to candidates who also are familiar with one of more of the
following: RNA extraction, RT-PCR, scanning electron microscopy, plant
anatomy and histology, in situ hybridization, Southern, Northern, and/or
Western blots, immunolocalization, computational analysis of whole genomes.
The successful candidate will be in charge of the day-to-day management of
an active lab of 15-20 scientists. Responsibilities will include training
undergraduate and graduate students in molecular systematic techniques;
ordering supplies; maintaining accounts; and supervising use of a shared
ABI 377 DNA sequencer. Remaining time will be available for research.
