POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS IN SCIENCE, ENGINEERING AND MEDICAL SCIENCE

THE CLAUDE HARRIS LEON FOUNDATION

The Trustees of the Claude Harris Leon Foundation have established
postdoctoral fellowships in Science, Engineering and Medical Science at
South African universities. The fellowships will be available from
January 2004 for two years and are valued at R90 000 per annum.
The starting salary for an assistant lecturer in South Africa is
approximately R98 000 p.a. before tax and it should be borne in mind
that the cost of living in this country is far lower than, e.g. in the
United
Kingdom.

It is understood that, subject to formal application by the host university
to the S.A. Revenue Department, the fellowship should be exempt from S.A.
tax although the Foundation can give no guarantee.
